3-Point Hitch 3 point hitch dead

A friend has a T273 that has apparently busted the gears or whatever runs the lift on the hitch. He was using a 12" auger and caught a rock that sucked it to the center of the earth. Busted something, no more up & down & nasty noise.

78.6 hours but close to 2 years old. Dealer is 200+ miles north & on vacation so no answer there.

Thoughts? Known problem? Any place he can get an online shop manual & parts diagram if dealer tells him to go away?

I believe the dealer sells a cd with all the tech info.
