My problem is opposite from grsr3's issue. I fabricated a trenching tool from a large tooth from a big CAT excavator. If it would stay down, I'd be able to rip a trench 3 feet deep x only 2 inches wide...enough for a 1" water line. Problem is that when the TPH is in the down position, any resistance from the ground (it's just a bit hard, not frozen) keeps the tool from digging in.

Sounds like draft control is kickin' in. Describe how you are controlling the implement with the two hydraulic control levers.

It may be just a adjustment of the top link is needed. Also you may try taking a few quick shovels of dirt out of the starting point to get things going.

Like Chris said, If you're working in hardpan you'll need to make a starting point, and if the implement has the correct rake angle you may just need to extend your top link a couple of turns.

I did extend the length of the top link, put forks with about 400pounds on the rear end and it's working.
