The 3 point lift arms on my John Deere 5300 utility tractor are dropping. This started when the tractor was not running, but recently it will do it while the tractor is running also. There are no external leaks. I am hoping someone has had a similar issue with a similar tractor and has an idea which component is leaking internally. Thanks for your help.

Usually it's the rockshaft control valve thats the culprit for this. At least thats what the tech manual says for my 4400. I replaced mine with a NOS valve and didn't solve the problem. I been doing some research online and it looks like the rockshaft pressure relief valve can also be a cause.

The rockshaft control valve is usually caused by leaking O-rings and the control valve can get stuck partially open with a piece of debris or have a broken spring. I'm not sure but the relief valve is adjustable to my knowledge so it might just need a quarter turn.

Both parts are pretty pricey so you might want to try and adjust the relief valve. Do you have a load on the 3 point causing it to drop?

Any issues with lifting a load on the 3 point?

Another problem can be the seals of the lifting piston cylinder.

It's possible 3 pt drooping problem could be caused by faulty 3 pt control valve, rockshaft piston seal(keys 14A or B) or thermal relief valve(key 19).

My apologies to you all for not responding to your replies. I didn't realize that I had responses or even recall that I had made the post, but that is another story...
At the time the dropping 3 point was more of an annoyance than something that was causing real problems, but as always there are new issues.
The 3 point continues to sometimes drops overnight when parked. Also, the scv, when used to raise a 3 pt mounted implement like a disc mower to the headlands position, will release pressure and allow the scv connected implement to slowly drop.
The most serious development though is that the steering will not work at all until the tractor is at operating temperature. after that, it works normally.
I am not aware of any issues with the brakes although since the tractor cant be driven until it is fully warmed up, who knows.
It has been suggested to me that it is probably not the main pump since it would be pumping oil even when cold. The suspicion is that it might be the main relief valve instead, since the entire system is affected. I thought I might get some comments before doing a $550.00 experiment.
There is a fresh service on the hydraulics including cleaning the sump screen.
