I was using my 3 point hitch for the first time yesterday with a small carry-all/fork type device. Every time I tried to back up the bracket that holds the supports for the lower arms fell off at which point the lower arms moved toward the inside on the shaft supporting them and the whole shaft fell out. I realized that there is nothing holding this bracket to the shaft other than gravity where the u shaped plate hooks over the shaft. There is a hole in the plate where perhaps some sort of attachment is supposed to go? I put a bolt in the hole and the end of the bolt keeps the plate from falling off the shaft. Can someone tell me how this is supposed to be attached, or is it actually supposed to be setting loose on there? If this description isn't good enough for someone to figure out what I am talking about I will try to post some pictures later.

Rick post a photo if you can. I am not that familiar with the BX series but something isn't right.

There is a pin that goes in from behind the plate towards the rear of the tractor. It then gets a cotter pin through it. With out that pin I can definetilly see how the 3 point would fall off. You could get a pin at any tractor place I'm sure.

With the pin in the hitch should hold with out any trouble.

I am not sure what your pin should look like, but on the BX2200, the part that brushes up against the main crossbar is MUCH FATTER than the hole for the pin would imply. If I were to try to replace mine with a bolt, I would have to put a stack of flat washers to build the same shape.

In fact, a 1.5" long by 3/8" dia. bolt with say six flatwashers, held in place with a nylock nut would be a very good substitute for my pin.

Not sure if this will help, but see Item 70 in the PDF below.
Mine looks different now, since I took MilkMan's route on the stabilizers and replaced that curved plate. I made my own plate replacement, so the stabilizers will not bind if the lift arms are at different positions.

Thanks everybody, that pin is definitely missing, gravity held everything in place until I tried to use it. The bolt I put in basically serves the same purpose, I have double nuts on the back. I'll have to try to pick up the actual pin at the dealer some day.
