Haven't done this conversion, but looking at it , would say it shouldn't be to hard, and would be well worth the effort when completed.

I have never seen a fertilizer spreader with an articulating arm like that, pretty weird.

Unless you are using something like a BX OR you hydraulic 3 PH doesn't work, I wouldn't think you would need a trailer to hold up the spreader. Most of those hold about 500-700 pounds of material and just about any CUT will pick up that much weight without a problem. Otherwise, you don't have to fill it to the top either if your tractor is so small that it wont carry a full hopper, just fill it 1/2 full.

herd makes a trailer kit for there seeder, (not low cost) but this PDF has some pictures of it in it, http://www.edneyco.com/assets/files/manufacturers/herd/brochures/Herd Broadcast Seeders.pdf I have considered just making a trailer for mine as I think it would be much easer to hook up, and to use normally, a longer PTO shaft would most likely be needed,

If I was gong to keep the three point and just use "helper wheels" I would caster them as not to tear things up, you can see in the video the side slide of the wheel when turning sharp, and the more weight on them the more damage would or could be done,

Found another unit that was basically a three point unit that had been factory trailered so it could be ground driven,

Converting to a full trailing type as suggested by BHD appears to be a far better option ,apart from the PTO shaft it would not involve a great deal more work. Would be much more convenient to use than a 3pl set up.

Look carefully and you will note that the trailer wheels have a differential in the center that spins the spreader 'table'.
That style could be built from any automobile rear drive differential.
That style has no need for a PTO and could easily be home made with any old car differential.
