Greetings again!
I was getting ready to order a new valve for the jm 254, and decided to take it apart to see how it worked. Problem originally: binding, to the point where it would not work unless I clamped the vise-grips on the handle to keep it from rounding out the shaft.
So, I took it apart, only to find that all one piece of the internals were perfect, and moved very easily. I coated the spool (very lightly) with neversieze, and the actuator at the rear of the valve with neversieze..... took it out, and it worked perfectly, needing only light finger pressure to operate, etc... I worked for about an hour before I realized I had forgotten to tighten the 3 mounting bolts, and then I got a hydraulic bath.
so, this morning, I go out, and find that the valve is bound up again. even before starting the tractor. take it apart again, and it works perfectly again.... whats up with that? I would order a new valve, but I am afraid of the same thing happening. I guess I should have coated the spool with grease instead of neversieze, or am I wrong there? What is the recommended lube?
Any and all suggestions welcome.
Thanks!
