So I have had this problem for more than a year. I'm on my B2620 (100 hours) and I'm mowing a bunch right now. The land is a little rough so everyonce in a while the rear wheels will fall in a rut and I'm stuck. So I lift the 3-point so the rear wheels can get to the bottom of the rut and I drive out. Then after that I want to put the 3-point back down and the lever won't engage to lower it. I've tried oiling the shaft that the lever attaches to and everything else but nothing works. Here is the kicker. If I kill the engine and wait a second, it will engage. Then I'm all set again until it happens next time.

So, is there some adjustment that my 3 point needs? Why does it unstick after I kill the engine?

thanks
Austin

Is it still under warranty? It only has 100 hours and 1 year on it.

I'd recommend letting the dealer mess with it.

Or, go to Messick's website, put in your tractor's model number and request a parts diagram of the hydraulic system. They will email it to you. Then you can see how the linkage is set up. Maybe that will give a clue.

That sounds like a good idea to do because later down the road that will be a big problem.

Maybe when you are stuck deep in a rut, the ground forces some control rod into jamming the 3 pt up and the hydraulics won't release it until the engine is shut down.
Cheer,

No more dealer for me. Everytime they get it, it comes back with something else wrong. No thanks. I've restored trucks, rebuilt engines and transmissions, and I'm currently building my own house. I think I can handle a little DIY tractor work.

"....the ground forces some control rod into jamming the 3 pt up and the hydraulics won't release..." I thought this too but the controls still work to pull the 3-Pt up! I pull the level to lift the 3-pt a little more and it goes up fine. Then I try to put the lever in the down position and it won't go. So I pull the level to lift the 3-pt again and sure enough it goes up fine. Try to put the lever in the down position and it won't go. The lever will only go to "neutral" or up. At that point I kill the engine for a second and then put the lever in the down position. It is like there was never a problem. Then I crank up the engine and I'm good to go.

This is only a problem sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't have a problem at all and I can change 3-pt height all day long. It is not temperature related because it does it in the summer and winter.

thanks

Have you tried opening up rate of drop screw?

If you are talking about the turn knob down below my ankles to adjusts the rate of drop, then the answer is no. That is a good idea. I might be mowing more this weekend. I will loosen it up a little and see what happens.

thanks

That might help, but it doesn't seem to explain why the lever becomes inoperative (stuck).

A tightened knob will hold the 3PH up even with the tractor off. You should be able to loosen the knob all the way and control the rate of 3PH drop by feathering the control lever.

Worth a try, however.

Try putting some grease on the feedback rod. That might be locking up sometimes.

GWDixon,

I agree. It doesn't explain it perfectly but I can't find anything that does.

Leejohn,

I'm thinking the feedback rod is the one with the spring on it? If so, it is nice and clean. I keep it so and oiled as well because I thought it might be the problem. I also keep the area where the shaft goes into the casing nice and clean and oiled. It might be something internal but I'm going to exhaust the external stuff first.
