I am reworking a heavy duty 3 pt. 10' disk. Currently, the lift arms attach in the classic method whereby there is a stud bolted through a metal ear.

This stud then slides into the category II eyeball on the end of my lift arm. As you can see, this "ear" has been bent in the past. Im considering re-fabricating the attachment so that there are 2 "ears" that the eyeball goes between and then utilize a pin (like most attachments have where the top link attaches). I think this will be a much more sturdy attachment method. I have a newer heavy duty bush hog that uses this method.

1) What is your opinion of the change?

2) What distance between "ears" would you recommend for a category II setup?

That should work.

Design it so a quickhitch will fit, as you will soon want one of those - back up, lift, and the disk is mounted.

They often have a thicker J hook, so make it with enough space for a standard cat 2 quick hitch to fit in.

Also, pick up the disk when you make sharp turns. The current design would be strong enough if the disk isn't mis-used. If you spruce up the ears, something else will become the weakest link........

What you're looking to build is a clevis style hitch. I can't imagine why any manufacturer would build a 3 point hitch for a 10 ft. disk without using the heavy duty style clevis but I see they did and sure enough the pins bent. And it looks as if possibly some operator was turning corners with the implement still socked in the dirt. That's not a good idea at all.

According the the chart in the link below your category 2 arms have a 32 inch spread. I say go for it.

The clevis arrangement should be stronger and less prone to bending.

Why don't you just copy your bush hog clevis spacing?

Thanks for taking the time for pics and posting them. I was planning to measure my bush hog as well and compare. I was thinking that by having measurements from several implements, i would find a standard of sorts. thanks again guys. Mike
