As some of you may remember I purchased my first tractor a few months ago. Have spent about 30 hours on her beginning to clean my 4 acres for new home and shop.

The 3 pt lift works fine with the mower and box blade EXCEPT I am unable to control the down speed. The valve under the rockshaft housing seems to be fine as I am able to raise and lower the attachments fine but when I lower the units I have to "bump" the handle until it is in the position I want because if I just open the valve it falls really fast. There is a valve under the seat and I and sure it is the culprit, it is supposed to control lowering speed or lock. Any one with any experence on these ? I have a manual and would be happy to post a picture if anyone is interested and you give advice on posting the pic.

Other than that it am so please with the tractor I could just scream. Thanks to months of "study" here and the great advise given I can say I have had little to no problems. Considering I'm 50, never had a tractor or ANY experience around them at all I'd could not be more thankful for this great forum !!!

On my tractor (B2710) the valve for lowering speed is very touchy. It has several turns from end to end, but the active area is only a fraction of a turn to go from fast drop to no drop. I need to set it *just* *so* for a heavy (900lb) implement to operate properly. It is less critical for a small load. So you may need to just fiddle with it a bit more.

I had the same problem with my little Mitsubishi . There was a small spring in the control valve that was broken. Very cheep and easy fix.

Hey guys I got it to work !!!
The shaft under the control knob is left handed so "out" is in and "in" is out therefore exposing more of the shaft. Several squirts of PB Blaster and working the knob allowed several more turns as well as removing 28 years of dirt and debris....

Now I am able to lower my mower at a nice slow speed instead of "bumping" the handle and feeling it slam down.

These old Kubotas are great tractors !

I got some info from a dealer about the L255 I own. It is 28 years old and I am the second owner. It was one of the first Kubotas to be imported into the USA. A few more years and it will be a true "antique" !!
