Friend of mine has a small nh, not sure of model, but looked to be like a tc 18 or so. His 3 point leaks down when the bushhog is on the back. He took it to the dealer and was told that was normal and the smaller compact tractors have a different 3 point design that doesn't hold in place. I think he's getting fed some bogus info and there's probably just a bad seal/o ring somewhere and he's getting blow by. (It's not as bad when the fluid is cold, leaks down faster when it warms up). Anyone out there have similar problems or input? He bought some check chains for the bush hog so it's not as much of an issue but I still can't believe the situation is "normal." I just don't think the dealer can figure out the problem.

If the mower is well under his weight rating on the hitch then it should not leak down while he is using it. My tractor is a little bigger than this but the only time it has leaked down on me even with an implement approaching my max weight was after the dealer "fixed" a hydraulic leak on the back.

Sounds like a seal, don't know much about that model but the earlier compacts had a piston with a seal on it under the seat. I've had them leak down quite a bit. Also check any releif valves for seating. It's always a good idea to use check chains with a heavy hog, save alot of wear and tear on the hyds. Last but not least, always lower the equipment when the tractor is idle or parked overnight.

"bogus Indeed" , all TC's have a very good basic and similar design. They are very easily maintainable. Nine out of ten is the nylon seal of hyd piston that is the culprit. Under $15 and an hour it can be replaced. Ditto on all Namvet69 and WTA had to say. I have gone thru the same repair procedure for my 1700. below is a link to a thread when I repaired mine.
