Kubota L4400 4wd w/LA 703 FEL
I was at my local Kubota dealership picking up a couple of small items and took the time, as I usually do, to stroll through the lot and look at all the tractors. I have an L4400 that is pushing 2 years old and I love it.

I know that the 'L' series are Kubota's economy line of tractors, but for the most part the main thing that makes it economy is that it is very basic. However, one thing I noticed was that even the much smaller, but higher end, tractors (and all of the utility and AG machines) had external 3pt hitch rams while the L4400's rams are within the rear end. What is the advantage of having them external? How is it cheaper putting them on the inside?

Hello Stranger

Haven't heard from you to much lately. In the thirties here in the low country
this mourning, Gobal warming !
To answer your question, did you notice the sieze of those pistons, much
bigger, compared to the ones in your 4400 and giants compared to the
ones in my 2910. Bigger means more lift, for bigger tools. I have
noticed in my life time, that a lot of the bigger tractors have them on the
outside. Hope this helps. Are you thinking of getting a bigger tractor?

Hi Stanley. Cold this morning here too. Looks like a nice weekend coming up and I've got plans for a lot of seat time!

In any case, I can't say how much bigger the external ones are since I can't see the ones in my 4400. But that's just the thing, there were much smaller, but nicer tractors on the lot with external ones.

No, I'm not planning on a bigger tractor. I have an irrational desire for one, but there is nothing I currently want or need to do that my 4400 can't handle as well as, or better in some cases where room is tight, than a larger machine.

Just curious about the internal hitch piston configuration. Seems to me that putting them inside would be harder than putting them outside, regardless of the size. It also seems like working on internal ones would be a monstrous undertaking.

Good Mouring George

A little warmer here this mourning, later today I have to go and do a driveway.
But back to the subject, my one remaining living brain cell forgot to mention
that, my tractor and yours too, I think, have only one cylinder, where as
the bigger ones have two. This results in greater lift, they are put on the
outside of the tractor for reasons of geomerty and space, could you imagne
those cyclinders on the inside of the tractor, space restrains. It would be
better if they were on the inside, any leaks would return the oil back to they
system. As far as maintainence, there is not much on cylinders. Hope this
helps.
I to go on the lot and look at the tractors, wishing and wondering why I
did not get a bigger and better one, but one could go broke following ones wishs.
