3 pt linkage only jerks upward when lever fully activated

I have searched the posts but can't find an answer to this one - The tractor is a Ford 6000 Selectamatic in generally good nick. I have replaced a couple of hydraulic lines to the front cylinder. The power steering seems to work OK though it is noisy which suggests air in the system.

The 3 Pt linkage is the problem - it will only lift when the lever is slammed into the "up" position. The manual is not much help

Any suggestions welcome please

When I read the title, I was thinking you've got some air trapped in the system, and are only getting movement when you compress it quickly enough to force the fluid ahead of it. I'd try bleeding and topping first, then go from there. Good luck!

Does the 3ph have a draft function? Be sure it is turned OFF for normal 3ph operation.

Put somthing on the 3pt( Atachment) Raise it and close the ROD valve. Observe if the 3pt drifts down. :thumbsup:

Thanks Guys but please assume I'm ignorant about the operation. The linkage has a heavy rear scraper blade attached when the problem ocurs and the same happens when the blade is swapped for a jib hoist.

Sorry to ask, but neither of the terms you use are explained in the IT shop manual that has so many illustrations of the various components and the multitude of seals and O-rings it is all more confusing than enlightening. Also, I'm on a remote rural property and taking the tractor to town would be unaffordable. If I can isolate the dodgy component, then I may be able to remove just that and have it serviced.

What is the DRAFT function and how is it turned off?
Ditto - what do you mean by ROD? Where is the control for this.

OK I was being lazy - not looking on the net for an explanation of DRAFT control and I now know what is means. But - if the tractor (a 1965 Ford 600 is supposed) to have a separate draft lever, I can't find it. The only control is a single lever to raise and lower the linkage

The draft function on most Fords is a lever or knob near the seat. What do the 2 knobs do in your picture that would be near your heals when sitting in the seat?

Ah - I did wonder what those 2 knobs did - having never used them. I acquired this tractor from someone who could not be bothered to explain the various controls and I'm about to place a new post to try to get an operator's manual for the beast. The IT shop manual is OK for repairs but does not explain operations or maintenance
