I have a Ramsplitter that I am happy with for my uses. I connect mine to the loader ports.

I have the 12T version with the 3.5" cylinder. It is sized better for my tractor. I run the tractor ~1900RPMS, and can split everything I want to. My wood is mostly maple, cherry, white oak, various others. The average round is 18" diameter. It is fast enough for me working by myself.

I think that for any regular use (over 3-4 cord a year) get a gas powered unit and save the wear and tear on your tractor. Think about it, a good log splitter pump AND motor is under $800 to replace!
Use your tractor to haul your wood to the splitter and then to the wood pile.
This way when your pesky neighbor asks to borrow the splitter, you won't have to give up your tractor:laughing:

You can find some lengthy threads on 3 pt vs. stand alone. We've pretty much beat that horse to death. The splitter will have it's own valve so you need an open hydraulic circuit. You can do this with a loader valve held open as many do, but an accessory outlet (power beyond) is the most functional way to do it.

If your tractor does not have enough GPM for a good cycle time, then a standalone splitter is the better choice.

A 11 to 28 GPM 2 stage pump will provide a good cycle time.

I see you list a ford 841 in your profile. Is this the tractor you are wanting to put the splitter on??

If so, I would advise against it. IT has a really slow and really weak 4gpm/2000psi pump on it. Not to mention it isnt really economical to run a 62hp engine to power a very slow splitter when a 6-10hp little motor will give much more power splitting, and much faster cycle times.

Only way I could consider a 3ph unit for your tractor is if it has a PTO powered pump. But then, those are just as expensive (if not more) than a stand alone unit.

I have never owned a PTO powered log splitter. A friend and neighbor of mine gave his PTO log splitter to one of his Son-in-Laws and bought a gas operated one. He really enjoys the convenience because this method allows him to use his tractor for other purposes. Just a thought. Best wishes.

Run my ford 4000 D at about 1000 rpm with a prince pto pump and reservoir - American 4 way splitter - excellent
