Is it normal for the 3 point hitch to be able to move upwards when it's set at a particuliar height?

Or to ask the question another way, should I be able to move my 3 point arms up?

Attached a small trailer last night to move some light things around < 300 lbs and when I loaded the trailer, my 3 point arms would raise up. I see there is a product for attaching to the 3 point hitch (EZMover)...

What am I missing here except that I should just put the hitch ?

Three point hitches do not apply downward pressure. This allows the arms to float. Examples, when using a rear blade, the blade can float along the ground and the curvature of the blade causes it to suck down. Attachments can be bought to limit the amount it sucks in. Likewise with a plow when used to break up new ground. The plow's curvature and set-up will suck it in. A gage wheel is generally used to limit the amount it penetrates.

The reason for this is that a tractor usually drives over uneven ground, and downward pressure would jam the implement right into the ground at times.

Another brand of hitch adapter besides the E-Z mover is available with a safety chain to stop the upward travel. The use of a E-Z mover hitch without this feature is an accident waiting to happen.

OK.. I thought that was the case but wanted to ask.

What is the other hitch adapter that you allude too?

Bad River sells the hitch adapter with a safety chain. They can be reached at badriverinc.com

Being able to lift up on the lift arms can help a bit when hooking up some implements. You can also ease the process when you notice that moving the adjustable one on the implement will move the other one in the opposite way if it isn't connected. Mess around with it a little -- you won't hurt anything.
