Does anyone know off the top of your head what the gear reduction is in a typical rotary tiller that mounts via 3 point hitch? Or similarly does anyone know the typical rotational speed of tiller tines when driven at 540 rpm pto speed? I busted the gear box on my tiller last night. I'm sitting at work pricing out replacement options, and I can't go look at my box to remember if there's a gear reduction and how much.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'd google the make and model of the tiller to find the spec sheet. On mine it tells you the speeds.

Typically the 3 pt tillers have a 540 RPM input and the rotor will spin somewhere around 220 to 240 RPM. However, they will reduce the speed on the 90 degree gearbox up to a point, then they reduce it further on the chain drive. Most of them do it this way.

I agree with wirlybird. Try to find a manual and go from there.
