3 year old dies in farm incident.....

No 7 year old should drive a machine alone. I was taught to drive at 7 with an adult in the truck. I was not allowed to move the backhoe but was taught to dig. I feel for the family and the 7 year old. That child wil remember this and it will impact him forever. I don't think we have to regulate, just use common sense.

My condenlences to the familly. I don't know how I could move on after such an incident.

There is a reason for my post. I started a tread asking when should I start showing (instructing with surpervision) my nine year old to properly use a tractor / riding mower(we have a zero turn JD Z465).

I don't want to detrack from this post, but when do you start?
Clearly a tractor isn't a toy and it shouldn't be use as one either.

I say age 12 at the earliest for cutting grass. For a tractor, much older. I started with a PUSH mower when I was that age.

i live in marathon county and i was really feeling sad bout this whole thing.there is no way a child that young should have been operating this machine by himself, let alone with someone else in bucket.its a sad situation.

Shocking to hear and my thoughts go out to the family but as other have said what was a 7 yr old doing operating a machine unsupervised??? I grew up on a farm and sure was driving trucks/tractors from that age but never without the presence of an adult ( truck was a bit hard to reach the pedals!)
and definately not if the adult was 50 to 80 yards away! It is too late to save that little one now but lets hope that others that may allow practices like like this thinking that its ok will rethink and realise how quick things like this can happen
