300 series 3pt hitch question.

I am in the process of buying a 3pt hitch for my 1983 JD 318. I have noticed that it is missing the small strap which connects from the rock shaft end lever down to the 3pt arm mount. Does any one know its purpose, is it actually needed? If needed does anyone have some dimensions of it so I can fabricate one. Thanks.

I have 3-point on my jd 430 and it is not on. Then I bought a 3-point for my bros JD 330 and it can with. I don't think it is necessary.

Thanks for the responses guys. I went back and looked at a 332 he had a hitch on and the strap was installed. Raising the hitch all the way up the strap was still loose. I grabbed on to the lift arm and picked it up further than the hydraulics would and the strap stopped the top link from hitting the fender. I guess its there to protect the bodywork if you happen to back into something when you have an implement on.
