Iv'e got a 3000 series tractor and have both a 44" and a 54" deck I picked up this winter. I reconditioned the 54" deck over the winter and was going to check the lube in the gearbox but I can't find any information in either the owners or service manuals. Just to add to my confusion when I look at both gearboxes the 44" has the plug at the bottom of the housing and the 54" has the plug at the top. I'm guessing the 54" was put together wrong because that looks like it would be too much oil in the housing. I assume it's just a fill till the oil comes out of the plug, but just wondering what yours looks like (Plug on the bottom or top of the housing) and what lube you have used.

Thanks

Usually there is a plug on the side which you remove. Then fill till it runs out. I use Mobil 1 75W90 in my Kubota mmm gearbox.

Thats the same lube I use on the gearbox for my Woods 3pt mower, so I have it on hand, but on the 54" deck the fill point is almost to the top of the housing. Seems if I fill it to there its just going to foam up while my 44" deck with the same gearbox has the fill point at the bottom. One has to be wrong.
