My new JD 3720 has a 300cx front loader. When raising the bucket the action is not smooth but punctuated by jerks and the jerks are accompanied by noises. However, the lowering action is smooth.

Is this normal? The loader I used on a previous tractor didn't exhibit this behavour. Perhaps there is air in the system?

Any advice?

My 300cx mounted on a 3320 is smooth operating up and down. Of course it took a little practice to master the feel of the joy stick and on occasion there was an operator induced jerk but the loader is fine.

Suggest a call to the dealer.

The jerkyness I'm experiencing is not at the begining of the raising motion. That jerk is easily fixed by a more subtle motion of the joystick. This is more like a stutter.

My loader on my 3720 Cab tractor did this half way up the lift cycle. It was like a split second of a hesitation. I only noticed the problem on our first huge snow storm, which was about a week after I recieved the tractor.

I don't notice it anymore, because it wasn't an issue all but two different occasions.

1. I don't think the tractor hydraulics were quite warmed up.
2. Could have been air.
3. Could also be you need to check your regeneration lock on your joystick.
4. This sympton has gone away on my tractor. So it solved it's own prowblem somehow. Not sure what it was, but it went away...but I know exactly what you are talking about. My advice is just to see if you can break it in, and then see if it still does it once everything is warmed up nice and hot... because It doesn't happen to mine anymore....

Have you checked your transmission/hydraulic fluid level? Just a wild guess, let us know

I think my problem has self-healed too. I went out this evening and cycled the loader quite a few times and the jerking finally cleared up. My theory is that some air had gotten in the lines but worked itself out.

The tractor had just come back from the dealer today. They had installed a 4N1 bucket and had worked on the hydraulic lines.

BTW, can someone explain to me the function of the regeneration lock. I don't think I understand it.

MY 401D does the same thing after it has sit for a couple of days. But then again this was made in 1983 so we know that the system bleeds of after a while. After operating it up and down twice, Its back to normal. Also id does it when the fluid is getting low.
