This a real nice site for compacts. I am looking at a new 3520 and loader, and 72" mmm. Two questions that I have, First, what are the differences between the 300cx and the 300x FEL s? Doing a search here on the subject the recommendation is to go with the 300cx. The dealer seems to be wanting to sell the 300x because that is what they have in stock. I am looking down the road, and only want to do this once. One could be using the FEL for real work, lifting, loading and moving dirt.

The second question is about tires. With the optional 43x16-20 4 PR rear R4 tires is there interference with the 72" mmm? The dealer thinks that there is. Does anyone run this combination and what are your experiences.

Getting real close on finalizing this deal. Thanks for all the input.

The main differance is the lift capacity, the 300cx is 1598 lbs and the 300x is 1360lbs. I am not sure what the price differance is but , you can never have enough lift capacity, I would not even consider the 300 x unless my budget was tight or loader use was not that important to me.I can not help you on the MM, I can tell you I match is nice and I think you can purchase some nice rear finish mowers and not give up ground clearance for loader use.Macdabs

I assume you are talking about the bigger R4's. I ran the large R4's on my 3320 and then on my 3720 (I now run the R3's). You will have no interference.

I now run R3's with 6" wheel extensions and still no interference. I would however recommend you think about a RFM. I finally switched to one (I still have the 72"MMM and use it for material collection - Leaves). The 72" MMM doesn't raise very high and is more work to put on and off than you want to do frequently. Also you pretty much have to re-level it every time you put it on. Not at all as easy as the 62C on the 2305.

It does cut superbly, but unless you really need the maneuverability I'd go with a RFM, I got an 84" RFM the end of last summer. You don't want to be banging up that 72" MMM when you are using the loader. It sticks out to the side and drags very low. Unless your just scooping up bark mulch on a level surface I'd recommend not doing too much serious 'tractor stuff' with the deck on.

And go with the 300CX, better capacity and not too much more $$$. Buy what you need now. I bought a 3320 open - didn't get the cab and found myself 9 months later trading to a 3720 cab since I really wanted a cab. It's always easier to buy what you want the first time. :)

basic difference is ease of removal on CX and a bit higher lift capacity

36jd, I have a 3720 with 300cx and also a 72" MMM. I agree with those who advocate the 300cx. Lifting capacity is higher and the cost is not that much higher. As to the 72" MMM, there is NO interference with the larger R4's.

I have heard that some have trouble removing and replacing the 72" deck. Certainly it cuts ground clearance and probably should be removed if considerable work is to be performed with other implements. However, it doesn't have to be releveled whenever replaced. Duct tape on the turnbuckles prevents accidental change when removing deck. I remove and replace mine at least twice a month during the mowing season and it can be removed in less than 10 minutes and replaced in less that 15 minutes. Some might find that a real problem, but I am retired and have the time. I do check the level with the JD gage from time to time to be sure I have height and level correct.

one more use for Duct Tape!!! I love that stuff!

Get the 300cx!!!! Why on earth do they offer the other loader is beyond me? You would think it would be cheaper for John Deere just to make the 300cx and maybe be able to offer it for a few hundred less. Sure some guy's have them and it's all they need. But the lift capacity and lift clearance is hard to argue the additional $400.00. $400 is not a lot to splurge when you are buying an expensive tractor. You will never regret a 300cx, but most do regret the 300x!

Also Make sure you get the Heavy Duty Bucket! Not the standard duty bucket! Don't believe me look on ebay at the tractors that have the standard duty buckets and you will see most are bent or warped in some degree or another. Bolt on cutting edge is the best in my eyes.

Thanks much guys! I knew that experience would be the best way to get information. The 3520 will be mainly used for mowing. But I wanted the loader too. We'll be getting the 300cx.

Thanks again for all the input.

Plus the capability to quickly remove it and install it cannot be said enough.

I leave mine on right now but there are times when I think about taking it off, but then I think of a few reasons to not take it off and I don't. i really should take it off - too bad it is not a roll over deck!
