I'm new here but have used other forums for help on my various 'other equipment'.
I have a 3016 that I was mowing with and it started making a scrubbing noise under the hood so, I shut it off and checked under the hood thinking that perhaps a stick had made it's way in there somehow. I didn't see anything so, started mowing again and it made the same noise again, I hit the clutch, and then stopped making the noise after a beat and so, I started back to the house to investigate further. About 50 yards later it started making the noise again and I decided to press on and ultimately the engine stopped. When I try to start it, the can hardly turn over and behaves like it has a dead battery. I trailered it back to the shop and put a 200amp boast on the starter..same.
Next day, I was able to get it to start. Normal black smoke initially, then some white smoke and then it stopped again and has trouble turning over again even with the 200amp boast. Off to the dealer we went.
Dealer put 300 amp and same behavior..no start, and turns over like it has a bad battery. All the dealer can say is, "she ain't happy" (it's a small town dealer). Dealer is mostly saying that they will have to get into the engine to figure out what is wrong and is saying it could be something simple or a 5k repair job.
I'm hoping someone here has some insight or experienced this before. I'm handy with a wrench and am thinking I'll do this myself but I am running short on special project time.
thanks in advance for any help,
Luke
