3020g starts hard runs good

Have just rebuilt ms36 carb tractor runs good once started but challenge to start! Must choke even after warm then even questionable to Start. Seems to be a gas problem, pump ? Any ideas? Engine fires readily but must stay on starter till running strong.

Factory ignition coil is 6V(AR46064) therefore I think this requires a resistor or resistor wire to cut down 12 V from get to coil while engine is running. Most electrical systems have a by-pass to give points 12V briefly while cranking engine. Does the portion of electrical system on your 3020G function properly?

what propmted the rebuild ? Sounds like its still starving for fuel,is the main jet super clean,not just blown out w air,we run a piece of wire through to make sure nothings in there. Just a thought. That is a great tractor,we had one w a loader and wide front that ran great and did everything we asked of it

Have you checked the wire leading to the points with a "volt meter" to see if 12V were being sent to points while cranking engine?

Have not checked leads to points with voltmeter - will do this evening to make sure - nor did I run anything through the jets, I just blew them out. Will try to do both this evening and see where we end up! Thx

Electronic ignition is great, about $100 starts great, does it tend to flood easy too? I had a similar problem, other issue may be the air filter needs to be replaced

Do a compression test on the cylinders. Your ignition and fuel system may be good but valves or rings may be bad. ( I have the same problem in my 3010).

carbs can clog up easily. May need to take it back apart and blow out all the holes with a can of carb cleaner.
If that is it it will run better immediately.

If it isn't then are you sure your choke is closing completely?
the spark should be big and blue not yellow? If yellow then it is weak for some reason.

Is the timing of the engine correct. point gap correct?
