In my search for a good square baler i have happened upon a New Holland 311. Don't know anything about New Holland. Is this model reasonably fast and dependable?
I'm wanting something comparable to a MF 224.
What's a fair price for one used in good condition?

I think theres a fair amt of info on the 300 series over on ytmag. I was looking at them briefly and thats where I found most info. With winter coming up there should be a good bit of used equipment come on the market. My dealer says he has an excellent selection in Nov & Dec. Perhaps waiting until then wold give more variety?

How many acres are you doing?

Are you planning on having a kicker or NOT?

That would give an idea of what kind of square baler you are really looking for...:D

I took an evening and drove to look at the 311. I'm looking for a little more baler than this one. No kicker just a wagon hitch. I'd prefer an inline like the older case IH or newer MF. Also considering new MF, New Holland, and Case IH and good MF 224s.

If youre looking at inlines dont forget Hesston (4550, 70 & 90). Im looking at inlines right now and just missed a real nice Hesston 4570. Youll need a fair amt of hp to make use of the 70 and 90. Im not sure what your Mahindras output is but you should keep that in mind when youre shopping.

I just sold a NH 316 for $3000 up in WA state. I was only fair condition, faded paint and small rust spots, it still baled good though. It was just the baler only. bjr

The 6000 is 60 engine hp, but big and heavy. What are the larger inlines rated to require?

The 70 I believe wants a min of 50hp. Let me look in my owner manual tonight and post and exact number tomorrow.

The operator manual says min 35hp for all the mdls and min 2T tractor. I believe though 35hp wouldnt run the 90 well and perhaps not even the 70. Not sure how they decide on hp rating but in some cases it seems low.
