So, after two years of a LOT of mowing, I do about 5 acres weekly, I had to do some real maintenance on the mower. I had to weld a new nut under the deck to secure the shield and do a bunch of touch up painting.
When I checked the fluid level, it was fine, but I noticed some flecks of silver in the oil Not good.
I picked the deck up from one end with the forks to drain and gave it a can of brake cleaner for good measure, then blew everything out until there was no residue. I refilled with 90 weight synthetic.
MOST of the flecks are gold, but a magnet inspection revealed some metal. I curious what is on it's way out. I guess when the singing starts, it'll be time to tear it apart.
On a good note, those who own this deck, I removed the covers and added a thick fender washer under them to get them away from the deck. The corners make contact with the welds on the deck and rattle. MUCH quieter, it gets rid of the rattle. You will need to add longer bolts on the two outer ends (thus the reason I had to put a new nut on, oops.).
