I have a 3220D that I use for mowing and pulling firewood. I bought a Wallenstein winch for it last March, and I've been so busy that today was the first time I was able to hook it up. Headed out into the woods, parked it, shut it off, set up the cables, now the tractor won't start. I have a feeling it is an electric fuel shutoff problem, since turning the key off does not always shut it off right away, but now it seems to be the other problem, can't turn it back on.

However, all of my Yanmar manuals talk ONLY about manual fuel shut off via the throttle lever, I can't find anything about the electric shut off. This one does turn off with the key, though, so it must be somewhere.

I recently replaced the fuel and air filters and bled everything out, and it has run fine every time I've used it since then. There is no white smoke coming out of the exhaust, and no diesel smell. It really does seem to be getting no fuel. There is plenty of oomph in the battery. It's a hot day here, low 90s, so I know I don't need the warmup circuit.

Any advice? I'd really like to go pull some logs!

thanks!

Sure don't have any info on the 3220 but from your post no doubt it has an electrical shut off. Wouldn't be surprise if it doesn't have something similiar to this that is found on some of the F series. If so might bump it some and actuate by hand to crank.

There must be an electric wire going to a solinoid, somewhere in the fuel system, between the tank and the pump.

Many of the larger xx20 models and the FX models have an electric fuel shutoff. I know, because mine just recently seized up! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a replacement part for it. I may have to install a manual pull cable just like the models that don't have this feature do. Should work just fine - one less thing to break. Just makes me wonder what else I might not be able to get parts for later on down the road. I've attached a pic of the part.

Many times the problem is just the shutoff motor has lost connection. They don't use a sealed plug and are prone to corrosion. Unplug the little white plastic plug going into the shutoff motor unit and be sure the terminals are nice and shiny. The manual pull cable conversion also works well.

Excellent point, and thanks for your response! That was my hope after I found the part. I checked it and used some electrical contractor cleaner and cleaned and tested the connections to make sure, but unfortunately, my issue appears to be that the part in the middle that the motor is supposed to move is locked up tighter than a drum. I haven't removed the whole assembly to take it apart and see why, but I removed the little linkage between it and the fuel shutoff. The fuel shutoff moves with no problem, but the part on this electric "actuator" for lack of better words is completely stuck. Worth taking it off and dissembling you think?
