I bought this tractor with a clutch rusted to the flywheel. I sprayed it with diesel and transmission fluid mix and hit the edges with a large flat punch in different spots and got it free. But it still moves with the clutch in. After a while of driving it, i notice that theres a spring hanging. I imagine separation of halves is in my future... but what is the spring? It is an extension spring (not large diameter) with a hook on the end.

Sure does! And now the clutch does not disengage. EDIT: is that a pedal return spring? If so, no this is inside the inspection hole in the bellhousing. I can see it with the cover off. Probably should not operate it with it like this I'd guess???

It was a huge relief when I saw the clutch pop free (did disengage), but it still moved even with the clutch down. Now it's tight to the flywheel again and I'm guessing due to the spring whatever it is.

Only springs up inside the bellhousing would almost have to be from one of four on the clutch disc. Guessing.....

No, the spring I attached is in the bell housing. It is the return spring for the clutch throw out bearing carrier.

So I would assume I shouldn't use the tractor until that spring is back in tension?

I have some gravel to spread, but wouldn't want to damage the flywheel or other parts. I would think splitting the tractor will take me a full day since I've never done it before and it's 4wd.

When you do please give us a writeup with lots of pictures.
