I am going to throw these specs out w/o any guarantee what they are for except that they do come from a 336 repair manual.

pg 20-00-3 con rod bearing id:2.126-2.128
con rod journal od:2.124-2.125
bearing to journal clearance: .001" to .003"

pg 20-10-5 OD of bearing journal 1.966-1.967"
ID of assembled rod bearing 1.968-1.968"

Now from looking at these figures I can speculate the the upper numbers are w/o bearing and are the raw numbers you ask for but who knows these books are somewhat confusing to use sometimes. I dont have a rod to measure so this is all I can do to help you.

Thanks car doc. but I need the rod size without the bearing in it. That is not shown.

Always curious. Got to ask why you need this dimension. Also, if you have one you are possibly trying to repair could you look at another one for correct size? I know it's none of my business but just had to inquire.:licking:

Welcome Dale.

I am thinking the upper numbers IE 2.125 vs 1.966 would be a difference of over .169 that's .0845 for each bearing shell which is pretty close but there again its what is worded is where confusion starts..and w/o a rod to measure I sure cant say how close they are so I must take your word for it. :)

Hey Winston,

I imagine he may be having some rods rebuilt is my guess? The machine shop would grind the cap @ the parting line .010 or whatever and then reassemble the rod and then resize the big end on a rod hone depending on how bad it was scared.

I used to do it when I was building a lot of engines I had all the equipment to do it. hth :thumbsup:

Machine shop ground them down before getting any sizes on them.

That's too bad I can see that if all of them had visibly spun bearings but otherwise checking the good ones to see what they measure and compare to specs would be the normal procedure.

Well hopefully the specs I gave you turn out to be viable numbers since the tolerance is only .002" I believe that is the rod ID that spec would have to be near perfect.
