Good evening
Finally finished painting and going through my RZ60 Bush hog and hooked it up to the 336D. Bush hog ran great, have to do some 3-point adjustment but satisfied with it. I do have some questions on the PTO- should it not stay powered when the clutch is pressed in? I think what I am asking is - is the 336 a live PTO tractor or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

when you engage the clutch the PTO should stop...russ

As you let the clutch out you create a direct mechanical connection from the engine to the pto and to the range portion of the transmission. Then the powershift is 'behind' (logically) the range shifter and as you know, you can shift it to neutral with the clutch still engaged. At that time the pto is still mechanically engaged.

Vern I cut and pasted this info off Hoyes website we can thank them for answering most of our questions even before we ask! ;)

Quoted off Hoyes website: Is My Yanmar PTO Alive?

There is a lot of confusion about what a Live PTO is and isn't. A live PTO, normally, has a 2 stage clutch. You can depress the clutch 1/2 way in and the transmission will stop but the PTO will continue to spin. If you depress the clutch all the way the PTO will stop also. This is very useful when mowing because you can stop, change gears, back up, etc while the mower continues to receive power.

If the PTO is not "live" it will stop receiving power every time the clutch pedal is depressed. Because the PTO is always directly connected to the transmission you will need an over run clutch if you use a high momentum implement like a mower.

Almost none of the Yanmar models have a live PTO. There are those, however, that are making an argument that the PowerShift Yanmar transmission is the sort of the same as a live PTO because you can keep the pto spinning while changing gears and changing directions.

Just aword of caution. If your say snowblowing and you use the clutch DO NOT release the clutch with out reducing the RPMS. A sure way to break shear pins
