I have had a problem with my PTO. It failed to properly engage (just chattered without engaging) so I adjusted the cable and it worked again for a little while. When I had my tiller on it, it failed again. I have not tried to readjust it yet, but came to this site to see if anyone else had this problem, and they did. I've seen an older post about a year ago.

The post somehow turned into a discussion about noise after disengaging and a fix to quiet the noise. That is not my problem.

Has anyone else had this problem and were you able to fix it. Did Kubota find a fix for it? I have 175 hard hours on it and have been satisfied ever since they fized by BH-75.

I found a post from last year stating there was a problem with the PTO on some 2800/3400 HSTs. I just bought a 2800. I had my dealer check into this because the tractor had an earlier serial number. After he researched it, he told me there was a problem and Kubota had a fix for it. They had a big campaign where a team from Japan came in and fixed all of the tractors that needed the fix. Once the fix was made by the service guys, they marked the tractor with a small white paint mark on the rear axel. Mine has the mark on it. Its on the left side on the end of the axel. I would check for that mark maybe. It could be that your tractor slipped through, as all of the new ones comming off the line have had the fix for some time now.

I'm a little leary of tilling my garden now. I did notice a grinding noise right under my feet for about a second while I was running a 4ft brush hog the other day. I was backing up into some light brush and it did it while backing for 1 sec, then as I started to go forward, it did it again. Hasn't done it since. Like I said, I'm real leary of using my 52" tiller. I would hate to mess up the PTO, but what's the point of a PTO that you have to baby.

I'm still waiting to get my 3pt lift valve swapped out. My dealer told me they had to go through "sales" and file a complaint. Then they could get it fixed.

I've been working my new L2800 HST pretty hard for the past 3 weeks. After 3 hours of loader work, 15 hours of bush hogging, and 5 hours of tilling I noticed that I could not disengage the tiller. Called the dealer and he sent out his service guy next day. After troubleshooting he decided to have the tractor hauled to the shop. The problem was diagnosed as the PTO engagment cable was not disengaging due to rust. This was replaced and lubed, and after 7 more hours of tilling have had no problems. All I can say is I love this tractor and the Kubota dealer as well. I am pretty new at this farmin stuff...but would not trade the experience or fun for anything...just ask my wife.
By the way I was ready to buy a B7800, but when I drove the L2800 and realized the added weight would emilinate filling the tires for my needs, just felt this machine was right for me.

I have a L3400 HST 30 hours - no such problem with the PTO.

Sounds to me to just have something to do with your cable. Nice thing about this tractor is that everything is - for the most part - simple, mechanical stuff.

The only change I heard of Kubota having was to make available a kit to increase the oil resevoir to help quiet the chatter from overrunning the PTO. This was PSB-2005-052. Did they make a change to the engagement problem? I purchased my L3400 HST in March of 05 and never say a white mark on the axel.

That is the service bulliten # I gave my dealer. The more I think about it, the more I think my dealer may be feeding me a line of crap with the "white mark on the axel". Maybe a dealer on here could chime in on the subject. You might PM "MessicksFarmEquip". He is pretty knowledgeable about this stuff.
