Ford 3400 Industrial
I'm Jim. I bought 35 acres in northeast Indiana about a year ago. Its a beautiful piece of land with a variety of terrain on a small fishing lake. It's near a town called Albion.

When I purchased the land, I knew I needed/wanted a tractor to maintain it. I started looking at 8Ns but eventually found a Ford 3400 industrial gasoline tractor with a "bush hog." Its a lot of fun to run when it runs. And when it runs, it really runs but when it doesn't, it sputters and is useless which is why I've joined this forum. I'm looking for advice on my issue which seems to be triggered when I add new gas. I found an PDF version of the service manual but it doesn't seem to have enough detail so I'm hoping there's somebody out there who has some experience with the gas version of the 3400.

Thanks for listening.

First of all welcome to TBN - lots of folks here filled with knowledge (I'm not one of em - that's why I'm here lol)

I'm looking for advice on my issue which seems to be triggered when I add new gas.

I've no experience with the 3400 but just general troubleshooting this would lead me to think some type of rust/dirt/sediment in the fuel and/or water that is getting stirred up when new fuel is added and causing flow problems.
Take a look at your manual and see if there are any sediment bowls, fuel filters, etc and make sure they are all clean and free of water / air bubbles / crud or anything else that could interrupt fuel flow.

That might not be the problem but it's a good place to start & it will keep you busy till one of the experts comes by. :D

Best of luck

Sounds like points to me but I'd give it tune up. Plugs, wires, points, cap, condenser, rotor & FF before I went any further. I haven't had any luck with aftermarket points. They all burned up in 3-4 months. I put the NH points in about 2years ago and all is still good

Two more good thoughts - sediment and/or water and points & a tune (along with the NH endorsement). Adding both to my list of next things to try - I appreciate the insights, men. Thank you.

No need to guess on points, check spark first.

Points on 3000 models are a hair of a PITA to service.
