Just finished up. I had 1 problem which was that the hydraulic filter I bought had the wrong diameter threads (1" vs 5/8 or 3/4" whichever). Returned it and got another filter with the exact same numbers, and it was OK.

Got a bit concerned that the front axle took 2 qts less than the specs said, even though I drained the hubs and the center, but the dipstiock says full. I'll just keep a watch on it.

I skipped replacing the fuel filter for now, since I wasn't sure how to get the bowl off - is it threaded? Just grab with channel locks and twist?

Also it says to bleed the filter chamber of air afterwards. Is that what the 2 phillips screws on the mount near the petcock are for?

Larry,
You are right about the nut holding the bowl on is threaded, just close the valve and loosen the nut with channel locks. When you put it back togeather, don't tighten the nut until you open the valve and let the bowl fill.
Then tighten the bowl. Where the fuel line goes into the injection pump, there is a little black round headed valve. Open that valve and start the tractor, and when it has started, close that valve again, and you are up and running. Good luck with it!

Thanks, Galen. I always appreciate your postings.

When you did the front axle did you pull the 2 pipe plugs on the upper part of the hubs, when filling to let the air out and oil into the hubs? If you did not try pulling the plugs and let it sit untill oil runs out of both plug holes, reinstall the plugs, then recheck your level in the axle.

JOhn, somehow they materialized right where you said they would be!
I don't see how I missed them, but each side took just less than a quart.

Galen or John, I bled the filter and I think I did it right. I turned the black round knob by the injector pump. Now it runs but periodically will seem to run out of fuel. If I wait 15 sec it'll restart and run fine for 5 mins or so.

I'm sure I've got the valve set wrong now, but got myself confused about which direction it needs to be turned for normal operation.

Counter clockwise to prime it and clockwise after it has started. You did reopen the fuel shutoff valve at the filter. I hope this helps.

OK, it's solved. I'm not sure how, but all's well that ends well.

Thanks to Galen and John.

ps: I have since had the owner's manual fall open to the page with "How to Bleed the Fuel System" on it <blush>. I swear I looked and didn't find it. Must be the same gremlins that added the hub oil fills added this section to my manual.
