New Member,I don,t know if this is the proper place for a question but here goes.My 4 wheel drive selector does not go fully into 2 wheel dr. when selecting 2 wheel drive. It will run in 2 wheel dr. but will pop out and make gear grinding noise.Their seems to be no detent in 2 WD. 2200 hrs. on tractor.Cant see a physical problem on either rod end of selector shaft.Seems it must be inside gear box.Is their an adjustment somewhere ? .Looking for a tip before I start taking things apart.

:welcome: Welcome to the forum!

I'm going to move this thread over to our Mahindra section.

You don't have to post tractor questions in the new members area, although you can still stop by and say hi whenever you want. We like visitors :)

Usually, when you take it from all wheel drive to 2 wheel, you need to: 1. Completely stop, (put the clutch in). 2. Move the lever to 2 WD., 3. Put the tractor in reverse and move backwards about 6 feet. THEN, it should be in only 2 wheel drive. (ie. putting in reverse releases the gear connections). BobG in VA

What he said!!

The MFWD does not like to be shifted on the go like a pickup truck.

I have been working this tractor 13 years and 2,200 hrs and this problem stated a few months ago.I always shift the 4 wheel drive lever while setting still..I first noticed it while driving and a groaning noise and it had slipped out of 2 wheel drive.

Probably the shifter detent ball and/or spring AND a worn/bent shift fork. Your 3510 is identical to my 4110 in this area. I've replaced a couple shift forks in my 2800 hours. You have to drain the hydraulic fluid from the trans to remove the assembly from the side of the trans - the shift fork & all comes out in one unit and you will easily see the gear with the groove for the shift fork on the shaft. Very easy to remove, this is an extremely simple design. That shaft the gear rides on is mounted on a small bearing at the rear diff housing and runs all the way thru the 3 trans units and out to the MFWD shaft to the front diff. When you slide the gear via the shift fork, it engages an auxiliary gear mounted at the rear pinion gear/shaft - NO synchronization at all. Ideally you must gently move the tractor between forward & reverse while GENTLY moving the 4wd gear shifter to engage/disengage that sliding gear. It bends the shift fork quickly if you don't. Shift forks are not expensive and I doubt the detent spring & ball are pricey either. It WILL eventually destroy that rear bearing on the shaft if you let it go too long - I had to replace mine once. It's a major rear split for a $4 bearing from NAPA - definitely not a project for a novice doing that split.

Thank you very much. This is what I needed to know.MP
