I have a leak between the lower (power steering) hydraulic pump and the gear housing it mounts to on my 3510. The leak is engine oil, not hydraulic fluid. I need to get the pump off the gear housing..... however, one of the two bolts that holds it cannot be removed (6.5 inches long) because of interference with the engine. It appears that the factory may have installed both hydraulic pumps on the gear housing and then installed the housing on the engine?
Has anyone pulled the lower pump without removing the gear housing and upper pump with it. I have considered sawing off the bolt and reinstalling from the other end (which will work OK) but don't know if I am going to hit any other clearance problems after I get that far along.
(The cause of the oil leak appears to be a shim that spaces the bearing in the gear housing having slipped out of position during factory assembly and being deformed and getting in the way of the sealing O ring. I know this because I was able to get the pump about 1/8 inch away from the housing with the long bolt still most of the way in the mounting bracket and see the deformed brass colored shim.)
I really hate to take off both pumps and the gear housing to fix this. Its just a small leak, but drips down in such a way that it runs all the way back along the FEL fram and makes a mess 6 feet long on the floor.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
THANKS
