Hey guys, I'm a newbie here to the tractor family. I puchase a used Branson 3510i last year to help around the 5 acres I purchased to build a home. The tractor set under the barn this winter. I did go out one time to start the tractor in December with no problem. We were out this past weekend, I started the tractor on the first start, great I thought. I pulled it out drove it around the barn cut it off and now will not start. Any ideas what this may be. Battery is good and I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the ignition on. Any suggestions will be very appreciated.

Hello and Welcome
The first standard answer that almost everyone will give is to check the safety switches.
PTO
Clutch
Seat
Neutral
Check the battery connections.
Those would be the places to check first.

Is it cranking?

I own one, so I know the seat switch does not apply (does not have one), and you can start it in gear, if the clutch is depressed, of course...

Is the shuttle lever in neutral? I do know that it needs to be in order to start.

Is it getting fuel? I don't know where you're located, but if it's cold and you have straight #2 diesel in it, the fuel may be gelled up. If that's the case a dose of something like Power-Service Diesel 911 is probably in order.

Also - The fuel gauges can be iffy on these, so check the fuel level itself.

Hope this helps

The unit does not turn over or even try to start. It was very funny that the tractor started fine and then nothing. When you turn the switch on you can hear the fuel pump (I assume) or the glow plugs. I do not have the service manual or wiring diagram to check the switches or location. Does anyone know where I may be able to down load off the internet. Thanks for anyone's help.

Then I'm going to guess it's some kind of safety interlock, unless there's been a malfunction in the wiring somewhere.

I'd go back and wiggle the shuttle-shift lever one more time to be sure it's in neutral.

You may also want to re-post this in the Branson Forum - May get a bite on the manual, or more specific help. Dave's Tractor is a solid resource too.

Good luck!

Gotta agree with Lunk, sure sounds like some sort of safety feature. Fortunate for us there are not too many of them on the Bransons:D I have always had the tendency of inadvertently hitting the PTO switch with my knee when getting off the tractor. That is the first place I will look when this type of thing happens to me. Hope you find your problem.

I agree even if its a function you werent using, check all the safetys. I showed up at a buddies house one day he had the wiring schematic laid out and was scratching his head. his bota wouldnt restart. I walked over and removed his water bottle from under the lever for the front pto (that he has never used) and she fired right up.

I agree with the safety switches ideas. Engage and then disengage all your controls. Sometimes ice can get into the switches and make trouble. I have that with my hazard light switch sometimes.

Just in case it could be in a bind, take off the brake and parking brake, push in the clutch and put it into gear, then out of gear. You want the tractor to drift or at least rock a tad to ensure everything is disengaged.

I'm not sure about your tractor, but make sure the emergency fuel stop (if it has it) has not gotten pulled.

Wouldn't hurt to check your oil level/dipstick.

You could also (with tractor turned off) wiggle the wires to your battery terminals and to the starter and tractor ground to see if any are loose.

Hope you get it figured out soon.
