Hey everyone:

I definitely need your help on this one. Shut off the tractor and went in to have lunch, came back out & it's dead (almost). The only thing that happens when I turn on the switch is the fuel solenoid opens. No instruments, no lights/flashers, no nothing! There's power to the fuse block, all the fuses are good, battery voltage is 13 volts but nothing else works. It makes no sense at all, the lights don't run through the ignition switch so why would they not be working? Unfortunately It is sitting in the middle of the back yard (where I can't even get a trailer near it!) and it's supposed to pour all day tomorrow so I won't even be able to work on it tomorrow.

The mechanic at my dealership said that there are 2 fusable links in the system (one for the intake air heater and one for everything else) but they shouldn't effect the lights etc without taking down the fuel solenoid too. Plus he can't even tell exactly where they are (except that they are red and there's a butt-ton of red wires under the dash) because he's never had to replace one on a 3520.

I am at a complete loss as to what to do next. The mechanic is going to do some more research and call me back on Friday but I really need to use the machine now.

Has anybody else had something like this happen? Any suggestions?

I know you have probably checked this but it is worth mentioning. The rear PTO and the off-seat PTO switch are tied into the electrcal system is some strange (to me) ways.
Have you moved the PTO lever full forward and then fuel back to make sure it is getting contact. The conection is some how tied to a fuel shut off switch which will allow power to the pump but not pump fuel.
This is from the tech disk. I may not have it quite correct but it is worth trying.

You may also check that it is not in off-seat mode.

Oh, and one more thing. This got me once. The PTO is off, yes?

Al:

I did check the PTO switch but I did not cycle the lever because I lost power to evrything. In the past when that happened I still had power to the cluster and to the lights. However, I am desperate & will try to cycle the PTO control as well as double check all the interlocks too. Thanks for the suggestions, I need to start thinking "outside the box" which is exactly why I posted the on the board.

Thanks!

I would check the wiring past the fuse box and look for loose plugs.you don't have a battery kill switch because on my old 4200 the switch would trip the system and go black, took out the switch and had no probs.good luck

That's kinda what I was thinking, I did check a little but not really thoroughly (sp?) for loose plugs or wires. The Mechanic at the dealership said that the wires just plug into the back of the fuse block so that's where I was going to start looking (there's not a whole lot of slack in the harness back there so it's a big pain to actually get my fingers in there and check).

By the way, thanks for the clue on the location of the MFWD sensor the other day.

Wipp & Everybody Else:

Loose connection on the back of the fuse block! I spent some time today and found that I had power to part of the fuse block but not to all of it so I started, systematically checking, I removed and re-installed each fuse and then checked all the wires that enter the fuse block and when I was done, lo and behold, everything worked again! It could have been a loose fuse but I had pulled and replaced them all before so I don't think so.

I am really relieved as I had visions of having to hire a tow truck or find a friend with a winch to drag it out to where I could get it on a trailer.

Thanks again for the advice!
