I've got 55 hrs. on my year old JD 3520. I was going to get the first service done but the service manager at the JD dealer said to wait for 200 hrs.

He printed out a page from the owner/op manual that states that but it also states that you should drain the engine oil yearly regardless of hours.

A buddy of mine said if it has "break in oil" l I need to stay with it until around 200 hrs so the piston rings will set as not to burn oil.

55 hr. service or 200 hr. service ??

Would I be wasting my money to get the oil drained now or wait?

I've got more toys to use behind it now so the hours will be increasing at a higher rate.

Thanks

You've got a Yanmar engine in your 3520. I'm on my 3rd Deere with a Yanmar engine (although mine were used when I bought them).
I would change the engine oil/filter now...not wait for 200 hours. If the rings haven't set by now, they never will.
Maybe stick with dino oil (rather then a slippery synthetic) for another couple oil changes though...

Seems the first service info varys with dealerships. In addition, a few years ago the decal under the hood was different from the Operator's Manual but that may have been corrected on the newer tractors.

My JD shop mgr highly recommended changing engine oil and filter at 50 hrs on my new 3720 (2007) and use JD Break-in oil for another 50 hrs, and then start using Deere Plus 50-II at the 100 hr mark. So that is what I did and my 3720 uses zero oil between changes. I put about 75 hrs a year on my tractor and change oil & filter annually as specified.

Definitely change the oil. Does the engine use ANY oil at all? If it does refill with break in oil but change the oil.
You can get break in oil at any JD dealer that services ag equipment.

No it doesn't use any oil, right on the mark and bright. I'm going to let them service it as long as its under warranty.

I'm not home now, so I can't check my paperwork. But my 3720 cab had two services scheduled for 50 hours. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I think one was a break-in service, and one was the regular 50 hour maintenance. One was free, the other was $107. But w/o access to my files, I don't remember which was which

I changed my oil at the 1 year mark on my 2009 JD3720. It only had 50 hours on it, but I too take the manual as gospel and did what it said. I put in more Break-In oil and will run that until the engine has close to 200 hours on it. It now has about 90 and I will change it again soon, as the oil is about a year old.

I also changed out at 50 hours my hydro fluid both to get rid of any junk that may have accumulated in the first 50 hours as well as an exercise in working on the tractor. All totaled, I changed 8 gallons of hydro oil (6.8 in the tranny and 1.2 in the front axle) and about 1.5 gallons of engine oil, plus I changed most of the filters. The tractor is very easy to work on and if you have a proper fluid container (I got a 15 gallon container at Northern Tool) the job is a non-issue.

Yours sounds like a good plan to follow, thats what I'll do too.

I see you have a Frontier RC. How did your iMatch hook up to it and was the pto shaft still long enough?

I just bought a used Frontier RD 1060 last week and picked up the economy QH today both from the local JD dealer. The parts guy said to be careful I had enough shaft to operate safely so I was wondering how yours performed.

Ok, home now. Checked my invoice, they performed the 50 hour break-in service and the 50 hour interval service as one. Engine oil and filter was ~$38, cabin filter was ~$30, labor was ~$39
