3520 Intake Plenum Cracked

Hi all.
This is just to let you know that my intake air plenum has failed. It wasn't a big deal since I caught it early and it did not appear to permit unfiltered air into the combustion chambers. The synthetic plenum cracked close to and under the flex hose that attaches to the intake. There is a metal reinforcement ring in place and it may be due to the clamp placement beyond this internal metal reinforcement. My model is an older 3520. You might want to give yours a thorough inspection. Good luck and thanks for reading my post.

Yeah, I see plastic material being used on the cold air intake and wondered just how durable they are. It's not like you are looking under the hood 2 or 3 times a day to make sure it hasn't broken. You would think a better material could have been used there. And too, they appear to be restrictive to air flow as well. How many hours do you have on yours before it broke? B.

Sorry for the delay. I have not been receiving subscription updates. I have about 350 hours on it. It could not have been broken long since the crack was clean and not indicating that dust had worked its way into the plenum.

CORRECTION: 350 HOURS.

All of the 80's era turbo J.I. Case tractors (2590, 3594, etc. etc.) also had this problem. The new plastic tube for them is over $100!

Solution: replace with steel tubing.
