Just found this web site last thursday and so much good advice and info hard to take it all in. I have a 1998 Ford 1720 FWD 12x12, 5' FEL with 1350 hours and an Case 72" RFM. New Holland dealer has been talking to me about trading for new TC35A, but wanted to look at other options first and after looking around considering of going with JD 3520.
TC35A seems like overall larger tractor, but PTO and HP very close
Quotes I've gotten so far are:
New Holland TC35A FWD 12x12 with FEL 6' bucket and woods PRD7200 RFM.
$ 23,500 out the door. Trade for $ 14,700.
John Deere 3520 FWD power reverser with 300cx 5' HD bucket and Land Pride FDR2572 RFM.
$ 22,850 out the door. Trade for $ 13,500.

I use my 1720 about 50/50 for mowing and in the woods, hauling logs for firewood.

Seems like I'm getting a fair deal but having not even looked at a new tractor since I bought my 1720 new in 89. Looking for advice and feedback.

As I said earlier this site is amazing. Wish I had found it earlier when I was a newbie on my 1720.

I did the same thing. Last fall I looked at all the different tractors and liked these 2 the most. I went with the 3520 after driving both and with the e-hydro, check that out before you buy. I liked the JD better after trying them out and the dealer even brought it out and left it with me for a couple days to make a decision. The 3520 is a tuff little tractor so far, I only have about 75 hours on it but it's been all plowing and loader work. I did have a small fluid leak from the front end but it just quit before I could take it back, may have been some type of relief or something. I don't think you would be unhappy with either but if you are doing a lot of mowing I would steer you to the e-hydro. Forward and backward around things is amazingly quick once you are used to it.

there is no question,you have to go with green if for nothing else ; resale value . but why not sell your tractor yourself then go buy a jd 3520,i would recomend a hydro.as far as price,go to the john deere web site ane press build/price your new 3520,then offer the dealer some where beween 12-15 percent less than the jd website price

Donster,

I do not think you could go wrong with the 3520. The NH is a fine machine, but to me there is a difference between the two. I have had two 3720's among my previous stable of frequently-traded tractors, and have been most happy with them. Although it has slightly less horsepower, the 3520 is a very powerful and nice machine. The impeccable smoothness of the hydro tranny makes it difficult to pass up. It does cut your available HP by one-two, but for the ease of use and the fact the 3520 is quite poweful to start with, I would spend the extra to get that option. It is money you would not regret spending.

Sounds like the tractors that I was initially comparing. Ended up with the 3520 E-Hydro and couldn't be happier.

The TC35 is noticeably larger. That may or may not be something you desire. I recommend you drive both (preferably at your place) to see which one best fits your needs.

One thing that seems to be a definite Deere advantage is the "ride". Even my friend who owns TC35 (and his son) agrees that my 3520 has a smoother ride when cruising across the field.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm definately leaning Green.
Have done so more comparing and it is more the size I'm looking for. Am going to test drive, hopefully tomorrow. Will let you know how it ends up.
