This week I was operating my chipper and all went well for the first 2 hours. Then the tractor unexpectedly shut down. At first I thought that something was jammed in the chipper but on closer inspection I found the chipper was OK. I restarted the tractor and resumed chipping only to have it happen again. I again checked out everything and all was OK. I again started chipping and again shut down.
I have come to the conclusion that the seat switch may be the culprit. To use the PTO in off-seat mode you must do the following"
1 place the range lever in neutral
2 Lock the brakes on
3 1500 RPM
4 Get off seat and pull the PTO switch.

If you again sit on the seat it be taken out of off-seat mode

Therefore and movement of the switch would take it out of off-seat mode also.

Question

Have any of you guys experienced this problem?
Would you (could you) bypass this switch?
Tape it closed?
Any other suggestions?

Thanks
Al

Maybe the chipper is making enough viberation that the switch is tripping. Put a jumper wire on the seat switch and run the chipper and see if that works. If it does then you know it is the seat switch that is shutting down the tractor.

As DWE said, I also suspect the seat is jumping/bouncing while the chipper is doing its thing. Why not try tilting the seat forward while using the chipper and see what happens...

I think you guys are right about the vibrations telescoping to the tractor. I can't try tipping the seat forward because it won't tilt forward. I checked the connection under the seat and it seems to be firm. I will try jumping the wires and see what I get. The dealer had the panel where the PTO switch is located apart when they installed the diverter kit. I am also wondering if somehow a connection in there is loose or worked loose. There was not problem for the couple of hours and then it seems to be every other piece of brush.

Green, try the easiest solution first. Jumper wire on the seat switch. If that doesn't work, look elsewhere.

I know that seat switch is very easily closed because all I have to do is rest my hand on the seat to move the tractor a few feet.
Hopefully we don't get the interlock fanatics all excited :D
