35W bridge just collapsed in MN.

- JD4320 with TNT, electric diverter, cruise control and air suspension seat.
Have been watching the coverage of it on CNN. Will be interesting to find out what caused it to collapse.

This tragedy makes me worry even more about the future of the Mississippi River bridge that we use daily. The Huey P Long bridge is the longest car-train bridge and was built in 1935 and they are presently expanding the car lanes from 40 feet wide to 88 feet wide. This bridge is 300 feet over the water. The engineers say the old piers can support the new weight..........................

Daily traffic count: 140,000
Length: 1,907 feet
Longest length span: 458 feet arch
Width: 108 feet (8 lanes)
Height above river: 64 feet
River width below bridge: 390 feetT
Just drove over the bridge a week ago. I believe that bridge has a liquid spray for deicing in the winter. Tons of salt used on MN roads. Too big of span? Lots of additional weight with the concrete barriers to separate traffic.
Sure glad I'm not the inspector that said the bridge was OK.
