3720 cab tractor satelite install and speaker upgrade?

so you already have speakers, mount etc? if so take one out and go to your local stereo shop and find a version that will still fit, or utilize an online outfit like Crtuchfeld or something similar, you can use original radio to identiy wiring, etc. Or you can go to the dealer and purchase a satelite radio, granted for more money, but it will plug directly in. Still onyour own for different speakers.

Not enough info. My 3720 cab already came with stereo and 2 speakers. Your topic suggests you have the same. So lets clarify. Are you talking about installing something like a Sirius/XM receiver and 4 better speakers? or are you talking about satellite reception (mapping) for row crop work?

I have a new 3720 with a satellite ready radio. I would like to install the sirius satellite receiver and also entertain installing better speakers so that he sound quality is better! The question is ,has anyone ever tackled this? And if so how was it done? Do I need to remove the roof or the head liner? And how is hat done?

I can't speak for how well the stub antenna will work for Sirius/XM, but swapping radios and installing speakers is dead simple. Just pop the top. But get two step ladders and a helper. Do not attempt to remove the roof cover by yourself, you'll do serious damage to the seals. Once loosened, the top has to be lifted straight up and off without touching the seals. Loosening involves a few fittings front and rear. You can see two above the windshield, and I think the rear lights have to be removed to get at the fittings back there. Once the top is off, everything will become clear, including how/where to mount the rear speakers.

To get to the speakers you do have to remove the headliner. Removing the top is fairly easy and makes wiring and getting to things easier. As said... get a helper and watch those seals. The headliner comes off pretty easy too, remove the radio bezel, dome light, heater/ac controls, and it pretty much falls out (has a few clips and tucked in in some spots). Once the top is off it's pretty much self explanitory. I installed XM kit in mine and the antena wire is tucked under the roof seal and siliconed on the roof. If I remember correctly the factory plug in the tractor matches a VW plug to adapt to your radio. Wish I had the part # still.

JJmarotz thanks for the great pictures and info its a big help. Did you leave the speakers behind the headliner or did you cut out the headliner and put on speaker covers? i was just trying to make the sound a little more clear and was thinking it might be getting muffled with the head liner.

I trimmed the backing off the headliner and left the fuzzy part you see from inside the cab. It was pretty easy with just a razor blade and some time. Sound comes thru pretty good. I did that because the speakers I bought didn't come with a grill cover. Glad the pics were some help.
