3720 Fuel Smoke

   / 3720 Fuel Smoke #11
All of them had the left lower exit exhaust and they all would about choke me when the weather was cold or in tight confines with a strong odor of diesel fuel. They also would all leave a sooty deposit on the left lower hood/side panel and on the loader arm on that side.
Well, all but the very latest engines - running inside an enclosure - will be odiferous, particularly during a cold idle. That's when there are more soot particulates exhausted. At operating temperature and operating revs, combustion is more complete - which results in less soot and smell. That's just Diesel 101. Things will change though when you buy an IT4 tractor.
