I changed my oil and filter yesterday and that seemed to go fine. I did have a question about the oil capacity for a 3720. The online manual says 6 quarts, and my question is: is that the bare minimum or is that to the top of the fill line?

Also, does anyone know the 'spread' on the dipstick? Is that a 1 quart difference from top to bottom line? Half quart?

I spilled about a cup filling it up and don't want to start it up without the right amount of oil and also don't want to over fill. I was thinking of adding about a couple of pours from a quart of oil; but the mosquitos were in full force and I left that for this evening project. I didn't start the machine and let it idle because of the oil and mosquito issue.

The drain plugs are 17 mm in case anyone is wondering.

thanks,
Matt

I would not worry about a cup of oil . Start it up let it build oil pressure and then check the level after it has filled the oil filter. You might want to fill the filter 1/2 full with oil and screw it on really quick. It will help get oil pressure faster. In case you are wondering I always repace the oil filter when I change the oil.

Sorry about the mosquitos but it is supposed to get to freezing here tonight. I might trade you weather:)

LOL....Are you crazy? I'd rather blow snow year around then deal with mosquitos for one day....
Mosquitos are pratically the official Maine state bird...they get big enough to be....:D

Thanks for the replies. I usually half fill the oil filter when doing a filter change. I always change the filter on everything. They are cheap, oil is cheap also compared to repairs. I have a sight glass on my motorcycle, I kind of wish they had one on tractors. Makes it real easy to check oil level.

It is a bit chilly here in south Louisiana, but will get to 80 for a high. Cold front tonight, not sure what it will be, but I sleep with my window open when it is chilly. I am all for free air conditioning. It actually snowed here this year. About 3 inches i'd guess on top of my airconditioner. Supposedly it snowed in '88 or '89 but I don't remember it. Last time is snowed of any consequence was about '73 or '74. I don't remember it, (3 or 4 years old) but I have pictures of me building a snow man type thing.

Thanks,
Matt
