2006 John Deere 4120
I currently own a 2001 JD 4400 with R1 tires and Synreverser. The rear tires are inverted for more stability. I also use the following attachments. A 420 loader/bucket, JD 513 rotary cutter, forks and 6' front blade. I use the tractor for a variety of task including plowing/maintaining 700' driveway, removal of 12 cords of wood a year from our woods, mowing approximately 30 acres of fields, as well as moving various materials. In the near future I plan on using it to till for food plots.

I am looking to upgrade to a new tractor. Originally I was looking at the 3720 w/300cx loader, but one of the two dealers I am talking to suggested I look at the 4120 w/400x loader with Powereverser since I am satisfied with my current Syncreverser. There is a very little price difference between the two machines.

I am sure I will be thrilled with either machine, but I would be interested hearing the thoughts of others.

You current attachment will work more than fine on a 3320 much less a 3720. I think the dealers argument is true because of the oversize you have with the 3720. 4X20 will give you the larger frame - how tight are the woods you are removing the wood from? If you want to spend the extra $$ for the 3720 and size is not an issue then look into the 4120. Alos why not a 400CX loader? It is self leveling which is very nice. Is the dealer trying to unload some 4X20s?

Welcome to tbn btw.

Thanks for your reply. Our woods are not too tight, so I don't think I would have a problem with the size of the 4120. The additional height might be an advantage.

The dealer is not trying to unload 4120's. He simply feels that for about the same amount of money the 4120 is the better option for me.

I enjoyed your pictures and was intrigued with hydrolic angling option on your blade. What is involved with adding the option? Thanks.

You did not mention lawn mowing or the need to move the tractor around with a trailer, in either case the lighter weight of the 3720 would be an advantage. The 4120 has much greater lift capacity (height and weight) and its additional tractor weight would be an asset fior dragging logs and working ground. Also, the 4120 is powered by the American JD Powertech engine vs the Japanese Yanmar in the 3720. It sounds to me like the dealer is pointing you in the right direction.

With that being said definately go with the 4X20. You will love them. Wolc123 makes great points to conside.

The blade is a JD plow. It comes with the hookups for the hydraulic angling and they also sell the hydraulic kit. The 3rd set of oil lines on the 300X were my rigging. They work perfect and were just a bit tricky to layout on the arms.

I already had the 3rd valve installed so that hooks up to the 3rd set of lines and then hook up to the JD blade. With the 400X on a 4X20 the lines hook right up as they do also on a 300CX. The 300X was the only one where they had to be ran differently.

Let us know your choice. Also consider some grapple bucket options (that also use that 3rd set of lines) or a 4N1 when you begin the more narrowed searches.

Thanks for your responses.

I am in the process of trying to sell my 4400. Once it is sold, I will probably go with the 4120. It think it will meet my needs the best.

Thanks again for the input.
