MF 383
I have a 383. It is a cab model. It isan early 90s model. It gets used with a brush cutter on about 60 acres once or twice per year.

The tachometer works intermittently. When it is not working I hear a squeaking noise that I think is coming from the alternator. The speed/pitch of the noise is rpm dependent. I can often, though not always, get the tach to engage by reducing the throttle to low idle. It will then be like it catches and the tach starts working and squeaking noise stops. It will generally stay working at that point until I shut down the tractor although it will occasionally disengage especially at night after I start running the lights.

Does anyone know how to fix this or the cause?

I am assuming there is a sensor in the alternator but before I replace the alternator I wanted to check on here?
