Montana 3840 fel / John Deere 301T
In my original owners manual (thrown out by cleaning lady)I think it stated 80W gear oil in left and right rear final drives in new owners manual there is a sticker over the 80W stating trans/hyd. fluid is to be used. What is the factory fill 80W or trans/hyd.fluid? Was there a reason for the change or just a misprint in the manual? Thanks

For starters I do not own a Montana.

You will find many tractor manufacturers that spec a gear oil or a UTF. By Montana saying trans/hyd fluid I would have to imagine they mean a UTF oil.

What is in them now a thick or thin oil? If it's thick it's probably gear oil, if it's thinner then it's probably a UTF oil.

Use trans/hyd fluid.
