Anyone have any practical experience with the 3 cubic yard cement mixers? Good for what?

I am thinking of getting one for stone pathways and other structural projects around the house....

A couple of beers after a 12 hour day- - yeah I meant feet!

Thanks for the catch!

I only tried to use one once.

A friend had on an older Kubota that came with a mixer when he bought it. It mixed fine, but pouring it was a real pain. It just wouldn't tilt down very well.

We tried adjusting everything we could think of and nothing would improve the problem. We even tried to get the front tires higher by blocking them up, but the mixer was too low to the ground for this to work.

Every load required disconnecting the PTO, then shoveling the mix out of the mixer.

I don't know if they all have that problem, or if it was just a mismatched mixer for that tractor.

It did leave a bad taste with me, and I bought a mixer at Home Depot instead of the 3pt type for my tractor.

years ago I used one on a ford 8n. It had a tire that ran on a pulley on the pto and it really worked good. I had a free sorce of gravel so it was a cheap way to pour but now if you have to buy all the mix it is easier
and cheaper to use ready mix from the truck.
The one advantage of the mixer was you could back up to the gravel, water, and cement and shovel it in and then move to where you wanted to pour and dump it with out having to shovel or haul it.

We stock one from "First Choice" that does not have that dump problem. We Just sent one to a fellow in California to go on a BX2200 Bota. They had tried 3 others and none had the adjustment features they needed to work with that low profile tractor.--Ken Sweet

I use a 3 cu. ft. Mixer 80 cement mixer on my DK35, it will hold eleven 80 lb. sacks of redi-mix concrete and empties out of the drum completely without any problem. Sure beats the wheel barrow I used to use. Much easier to transport and mix. There are several hole locations for the hitch pins to be high or low in the frame on the mixer allowing it to accommodate large and small frame tractors. I am very pleased with the performance, and the price was much better than others I looked at.

I think it would be very helpful if you could tell us the name of the mixer you bought. Thanks, John

I think it is made by Work Saver, Mixer 80 is the only identification on the mixer drum.

I bought a very old - but very good shape - small 3pt cement mixer for $125. It was obviously designed for a Ford N series & that era. It holds about 4 sacks of mix, not at all sure what size that makes it.

I love it. I have a barn built in 1909 with a rock foundation, and I need to basically replace all the concrete between the rocks... So I can put 3-4 bags of sand mix in, and grab a trowel-ful out at a time, relaying the rocks. I can adust the hight of the mixer from low to high, as I stand on planks to work up higher.

To date the only time I've dumped it is to clean it, but it would easily dump into a wheelbarrow. I could even back up to a 3' high form & dump into that if the need arises....

Nice little machine, I can do the small jobs easily that come up.
