On my b2710 there are two sets of holes on the 3pt hitch link arms. one for heavy, and one closer to the tractor which let the impliments go lower but looses leverage. Does yours have this too? If so, you could use the lower/lighter set of holes and not have to lengthen the lift arms as much.

Yes, mine has the other set of holes too. I could hook up to the closer set and avoid having to lengthen the lift arm. However, the point of the original post was to find out if anyone else has experienced this problem - which is, to me, undoubtedly a manufacturing issue.

I agree that it sounds like a manufacturing problem, and to answer your question, at least I don't recall hearing of anyone else having the problem. I have learned that if you unscrew it to its maximum length, then pump it full of grease through that grease fitting, it may be very difficult to screw back to a shorter length (has to push that grease out around the threads).

Ah, the lifting arm links. I took those off and replaced them with hydraulic cylinders on Lucy. So I have one solid, and one hydraulic.

However, the one on the shelf looks fine.
