Ok, so based on the manual saying the 3PH capacity is 960 lbs or so 24
behind the lift points I thought I'd have no problem with a 650lb ballast block to offset the loader. I've found steering is very hard with the loader on compared to off and the Yanmar loader manual suggests 600 lb minimum ballast. The block is only 12" deep so the center of gravity is 6" behind the hitch points. From the ground the 186D won't lift the block, the 3PH relief is opening. I can pull up on the top link enough to get it to come up, and once the arms come up a couple inches the leverage is better and it'll lift it fine. A couple of questions.

1) What does 24" behind the lift points mean? Are the lift points the hitch points (would make sense to me), or somewhere else.

2) Is the relief valve adjustable and where is it (I need to get a service manual, it's on my Christmas list!!!) I'm guessing that the 30 year old spring in it isn't like it used to be or something.

Could you mount the 3-point pins higher up on the ballast block then?

Leinbach says my 6ft disk weighs 685 lbs. My YM186D can just lift it.

I *think* specified pressure is around 2,000 psi, but verify that.

Well at this point that would be tricky, it's more of a concrete block than a ballast box, but I do think that would work. My operators manual states the pressure, around 1920psi going from memory, and I have a gauge, just don't know where the relief valve is. I've heard of shimming the spring, etc.

The disc should be harder to lift because it's center of gravity is much further back than my block. Sort of confirms the relief needs adjustment, not suprising after 30 years.

Thanks for the help.

So, an update. I got an adapter to go to the remote port and hooked up my gauge there. Unfortunately (sort of) I'm getting close to 2000 psi (the manual states 1991psi is relief pressure, and I can't lift the block. I guess the good side is nothing needs adjustment. The arms are within a couple inches of bottomed out when the block is on the ground so the leverage is not ideal in the linkage. I will either make and offset plate for my draw bar to point the points higher or mount a 4x4 or something on the bottom to keep it off the ground a little more.

"748 lbs.at lower link end" . "550 lbs. 24" behind lower link end" . From the Yanmar Service Manual for the 186.

Buppie, thanks for that info from the service manual. Mine is on the way. My block is only 12" thick so I'm at 650lbs, 6" behind the link end, maxed right out I guess.
