i have been hauling cut wood 1/4 to 1/2 mile from where i cut it to where i want it stacked. this has been painfully slow to do with the fel.

the area is too tight to drag out the logs uncut.

has anyone seen any attachments for the 3ph that could be used to haul more?? something like a box of some sort?

not just a ballast box. i am looking for something a bit bigger.

thanks
John

There is probably more than a hundred ways to do it but I'll tell you how I do it.I cut an old oval oil tank in half lenthwise top to bottom so that it is about 5x5 across the top, attached a couple pieces of wood to hold it off the ground and welded in corner posts. I set it on the ground beside the wagon I cutting and splitting on and throw the pieces of wood into it as I cut. So far the wood is travelling down so I can kick some in or whatever. Then I disconnect the woodsplitter hoses and drive around, pick the box up with the fel or 3ph forks and carry it into the barn to stack it. Now its higher and unloading is again downhill so it makes it easier. The whole job requires minimal bending since I also set limbs and trunks up on the wagon to cut up. I also use this same box to carry ewes and lambs around if I want them out in a special pasture or somewhere. The big problem is building cheap with what you have available is that the bottom corners are curved and it can be hard for the critters to stand in sometimes. I was thinking of adding a cheap axle and tongue assembly so I can pull it behind the lawnmower.

Sounds like you need a Carry all. They are pretty cheap, under $100 at TSC, and designed to attach whatever type of platform you can build for one. A heavy pallet works as a decent base for a starting point.

John,
I palletize my wood where I split it. Then I am only handling the wood twice. Once to put it on the pallet board and then one more time to bring it into the house. This has saved me a tremendous amount of work. In between that it has been rotated and moved between two wood sheds and I haven't touched a single piece. With the 3pt. forks I can just barely lift a reasonable full pallet of green wood. After it dries, no problem. I have attached a photo.

Hope this helps,

Greg

WiJC.. Attached is a picture of a TSC carryall that I use for transporting firewood. It has removable sides so it is easy to load and unload. I made a dolly for it so I can leave it loaded and roll it around my garage. The dolly also makes it easy to install and remove.

I handle it a couple different ways. Stack it on pallets and move it with the carry all. You can use shrink wrap, snow fence or whatever you have handy to hold it in place while moving. I also have a 4x8 dump trailer and FEL when I just want to dump it someplace(I.E. out of pallets). The last load just gets hauled it inside and used right off the tractor trailer.

A 3ph carryall is the least expensive wood carrier I've been able to find.
Make the platform as large as your tractor can handle and add steel stake pockets for removable sides, or just add 2 stake pockets for uprights that will hold your stacked wood securely till you get to your shed. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif You might have to fill your FEL with all the wood you can fit for ballast /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I know the front end of my TO30 just wants to dance lightly if I don't have weight on the front /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif .. ....Raybee

thanks for the info...it looks like the carryall and homemade box to lift is the ticket.

now i just need to find the time to make it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Greg I like the use of the palstic fence for holdoing the wood in and letting the wood breath

"They are pretty cheap, under $100 at TSC."

I just looked at one this afternoon -- $78 if I recall correctly.
